Be Intentional about the life you are creating. These are the words I live by.
My story didn't have the best of beginnings. I was abandoned at 13 and left to be homeless. I joined a gang and did many things I am not proud of. Until one day, I woke up and realized I didn't like who I had become.
I wanted my life to change but didn't know how to change it. So I began by visiting the library to find books from people where I wanted to be.
That was the beginning of my new life. Being Intentional about what I read, who I surrounded myself with, and creating the life I wanted.
These days my life looks quite different than it did before. I own a marketing business, built a nonprofit, wrote a book, and, best of all, spend time with my wife of 20 years and our 4 wonderful children.
Q: Where were you born, where were you raised, and where do you currently live (City, State/Province, Country)?
I was born and raised in the San Diego, CA. I now live in Reno, NV. These are both in the United States.
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes or lines in a song or movie and why does it resonate with you?
“You gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!" — Rocky Balboa. I loved the Rocky movies growing up. My dad used to say, "where there is a will, there is a way," and this quote reminds me of that. To become focused on the right things and pursue that which is worthy of your pursuit.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
I wanted a life that helped others. Our nonprofit helps families one way and I believe our marketing business also helps families but in a different way.
Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Seeing people light up and get excited because of something we have helped them with. Those are my favorite moments and what makes everything worth it.
Q: What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
What you do matters even when it doesn't feel like it. So be consistent.
Q: What is one of your favorite places to be or travel to?
I enjoy visiting the Grand Ole Opry. Especially during Christmas time.
Q: If you could choose anyone (past or present, fictional or real) with whom to have lunch, who would it be and why?
Fictional would have to be the Chairman. There would be no one I would rather learn from and be around than the Chairman. Some things are better caught than taught.
Q: Who inspires you to be the best version of yourself?
My kids. I want them to have a dad that they are proud of. One that never stopped trying to do his best.
Q: How did you first discover “The Go-Giver”?
I saw it on a must read list and was hooked right away.
Q: Who would you like to see featured on The Faces Of The Go-Giver Community and why?
Specificly I would reccomend Shell Vera and Byrnne Tillman. They are amazing women who have a heart to help others. In general I would say inspiring entrepreneurs who hold the Go-Giver values.
Q: Finally, how can we know if someone we come in contact with is a good connection or prospective customer/client for you?
Entrepreneurs or business owners who want help clarifying their message and creating a marketing strategy. If they are passionate about helping others, we want to help them.
