Seems like such a simple, unassuming sentence, “Please tell us a little bit about yourself.” Why, then, am I stumped? I remember writing a song a couple decades ago that attempted to answer that question. One line in the verse said, “As I’m introduced to yet another me, it seems there’s still so far to go.” Okay, I’ll tell you what I DO know.
My name is Holly, I’m 4’11, just turned 54 and have been married almost 34 years. I have two adult children, ages 32 and 29. They love me well and I feel blessed beyond measure to have been a wife to Shawn and a mother to Hannah and Shawndee. (And I can’t WAIT to be a grandma one day.)
I’m an Enneagram Type 1, an Aries (although I don’t know much about what that means) and quality time is my primary love language. I think the most defining thing to know about me is that I’m a follower of Jesus and am always amazed how much He loves me.
I’m a little addicted to personal development books and courses and I’m curious by nature. I always root for the underdog and the thing I love most to do (through other people, like on TV) is look for treasure or create amazing culinary delights. I’m interested in all things health and wellness (in all areas, body, soul and spirit). I love music, singing and worshiping, and creativity shows up with me in writing (used to be song writing). Oh, and I’m on a “second journey” with the creation of my business, Serendipity Wine Tours.
Q: Where were you born, where were you raised, and where do you currently live (City, State/Province, Country)?
I was born in Troy, NC, raised in California (mostly the Bay Area) and currently live in Yamhill, Oregon, smack dab in the middle of the renowned Willamette Valley wine region.
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes or lines in a song or movie and why does it resonate with you?
“The worth of a life is not determined by a single failure or a solitary success.” — William Hundert in the movie The Emperor’s Club. It just rings true to me. Life is a long time and I do believe in the power to change.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your business?
We have a wine tour business in Oregon’s Willamette Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area) named Serendipity Wine Tours. I get to facilitate days filled with joy and making memories with friends and family. There’s always an element of “serendipity” as new relationships are formed and new favorites discovered.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
Experiencing it myself was the inspiration. I was in an “open mindset” and actively looking for the next right step for me but this was definitely a surprise!
Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I think being part of it is highlighting that there’s still beauty in the world (both in what you see and how you’re treated), still new things to discover and experience, and still good people to meet and be inspired by.
Q: What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
You are and will always be a truth seeker and a truth teller. One foundational truth is that you are already loved, chosen, worthy and you DO belong. No need for a long search for truth there. Also, remember to keep speaking the truth over yourself as much as you need to speak it to others. Your words are powerful.
Q: What is one of your favorite places to be or travel to?
Hawaii!!! I love to be on the beach and toggle between relaxing on a floatie in the warm water and laying on a lounge chair under an umbrella. I also love walking along the beach at night with music in the air and moonlight on the waves.
Q: If you could choose anyone (past or present, fictional or real) with whom to have lunch, who would it be and why?
I think my biological father. I never met him and I think I would enjoy getting to know him.
Q: Who inspires you to be the best version of yourself?
Definitely my husband. He is my best friend. His outlook is so positive and his joy contagious. He is a giver, is patient and truly sees me. His love creates and maintains an environment for me to continue to grow and change while at the same time feel secure and accepted.
Q: How did you first discover “The Go-Giver”?
My son gave me the little red Go-Giver book when he was in leadership training with Worldwide Dream Builders.
Q: Who would you like to see featured on The Faces Of The Go-Giver Community and why?
Brynne Tillman as I miss her face on our calls. She has so much to offer the community. Also, I would love to get to know Kathleen Hanover. She was on a couple weeks back and had such gracious feedback for David Good.
Q: Finally, how can we know if someone we come in contact with is a good connection or prospective customer/client for you?
I truly love all visitors to Oregon wine country who are looking to be introduced to some small producers and gorgeous wines and venues. People who are ready to slow down and take it all in. I’m sure we all know someone like that (maybe even ourselves)!
