Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Feel welcome to include your family, meaning pets as well.
I am a natural-born peacemaker as the middle of 7 children. I love my big family, traveling to Sicily as often as I can, and spending quality time with my wife, Kat, as well as our dog and cat, Mr. Feeny and Cory Matthews. If you get the reference, yes, I’m a 90s kid and a big Boy Meets World fan.
Q: Where were you born, where were you raised, and where do you currently live (City, State/Province, Country)?
I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and now live in Chicago, Illinois.
Q: What is one of your favorite quotes or lines in a song or movie and why does it resonate with you?
Don’t wait for lightning to strike. Make your own lightning.
Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
To be transparent, for years I struggled to be a “Joey” and a lawyer. Lots of people tried to convince me to start going by “Joe” instead. Thankfully, when I launched my law firm, I quickly found a community of business owners that had been craving a more approachable and informal “Joey” to call their lawyer.
Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do?
I am passionate about giving others the gift of peace of mind. There’s nothing quite like getting an alert from the US trademark office that you’re brand is legally legit.
Q: What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?
Stop worrying about getting hired for a job you’ll love — you’ll create your own!
Q: What is one of your favorite places to be or travel to?
I absolutely love visiting family in Sicily. Not only have I reconnected with distant relatives that are the kindest bunch of humans I’ve ever met, but the food and scenery is incredible.
Q: If you could choose anyone (past or present, fictional or real) with whom to have lunch, who would it be and why?
Lin Manuel Miranda. I think he’s one of the biggest creative geniuses alive right now.
Q: Who inspires you to be the best version of yourself?
My wife.
Q: How did you first discover “The Go-Giver”?
That’s a great question. I believe it was the great Mitch Jackson who first turned me on to Bob Burg and all his classic books.
Q: Who would you like to see featured on The Faces Of The Go-Giver Community and why?
Alexandra Watkins! She is the go-to expert at naming businesses, and she just has the best attitude and is a real Go-Giver.
Q: Finally, how can we know if someone we come in contact with is a good connection or prospective customer/client for you?
If you come across a friend or colleague’s business website, and you notice there is no “®” next to their logo or business name, they are likely a great prospect for me because that’s a sign they might not yet have a registered trademark.
